Principle 05: Healthy Environment
When designing green housing one must consider not only the impact a house will have on the environment but also the impact that house will have on the health of its inhabitants. The homes I design create a clean, healthy living environment for residents, which I believe is an essential element in any home.

EcoPrinciple 5: Healthy Environment
- Non-off-gassing materials: We never use VOC paints in our houses and we make sure that we use only formaldehyde-free materials.
- Air filtration: Our houses incorporate HEPA air filters and are designed for natural ventilation.
- Foam insulation: We choose our foam insulation based in part on how likely it is to fend off the growth of mold. Air mixture systems protect against stagnant or stale air.
- Hard Floor Surfaces: Using hard floor surfaces protects against allergens and molds that might thrive in hard to clean carpeting. Any carpeting we do use is in the form of washable carpeting tiles.
